Every Themebench purchase grants a license. The license defines how many sites the theme can be installed on, whether client work is allowed, and what kind of support comes with it. There are four tiers, with the differences laid out below.
What "site" means
One site is one production install of WordPress. Local development copies, staging environments tied to the same production site, and a single test domain do not count as separate sites. Two unrelated client projects on two separate domains count as two sites.
Personal
Personal covers 1 site. It is meant for a personal project owned by the buyer: a portfolio, a blog, a side business. Personal does not allow installing the theme on a site owned by a paying client. Personal includes lifetime updates for the purchased theme and standard email support for 12 months from the purchase date.
Pro
Pro covers 5 sites. Pro permits client work, as long as the buyer is the person installing and maintaining the theme. The buyer's clients can own the site and pay the buyer for the work. Pro includes lifetime updates for the purchased theme and priority email support for 24 months from the purchase date.
Studio
Studio covers 25 sites. Studio is intended for small agencies and freelance designers shipping multiple client projects with the same theme. White-label use is permitted under Studio, meaning the theme can be presented to the client as part of the agency's build without disclosing the Themebench branding (the LICENSE file and credit links remain inside the theme source for reference). Studio includes lifetime updates and priority email support for 36 months.
Agency
Agency covers unlimited client sites. Agency is the license to buy when the catalog will be used across an unknown number of projects. Agency unlocks all 32 themes (current and future) for use on any site the buyer or their team builds. Full white-label rights apply. Agency includes lifetime updates and priority support with no time cap.
What every license includes
Every tier includes the full theme source files (PHP, CSS, JS, templates, block patterns), commercial use, modifications, and lifetime updates for the themes that license covers. Lifetime updates means as long as Themebench is operating and shipping updates for the theme. If Themebench ever stops, the last release remains usable without restriction, and existing customers will be notified by email.
What no license includes
No license, at any tier, grants the right to resell or redistribute the theme files. The themes may not be repackaged into another product, hosted on a theme marketplace, or shared via download sites. Sharing a copy with another developer to install on a site they own is fine, as long as the site is covered by the original license.
Support window
Support windows are described above. After a support window ends, the theme keeps receiving updates, but new questions go into a best-effort queue with no response guarantee. Renewing support is offered as a separate purchase when this becomes relevant. Agency tier does not expire.
Transferring a license
Licenses can be transferred once, with email confirmation from both parties. The most common case is a freelancer selling a client site and transferring the theme license to the new owner. Email hello@themebench.com to arrange it.
